29 November 2013Ace Africa’s World AIDS Day Activities

World AIDS day

Ace Africa will be marking World AIDS Day on December 1st.  This is not just a one day event, but serves as a start for the forthcoming year to enable individuals, communities and organizations to become involved in issues surrounding HIV and AIDS. This is also a chance to promote the existing and new prevention, testing and care programmes.

Today communities throughout East Africa are still faced with challenges that prevent access to health care services. World AIDS Day provides an opportunity to take action and ensure human rights are protected and remove discriminatory barriers to achieve HIV prevention, treatment, care and support for each HIV individual.

Ace Africa is a key partner in organizing the events and will be working alongside other partners including, Ministry of Health, Education, Children Services and NGOs such as CDC, Kenya Red Cross Society, World Vision, and ICAP, Red cross, APHIA+, CREADIS.

On Sunday we will be providing voluntary Counseling and Testing Services, hoping to test over 300 people in each site in Kenya, presentations will be held from woman living with AIDS in Bungoma including Kholandie Women’s Group. In Siaya, Kopudo Young Women’s Group, a community support group will be demonstrating how to prepare nutritional supplements. Ace CTC Clubs will present poems and songs to educate the wider community. We will also see couples sharing their experiences and advice.

Decemeber 1st is also a time to reflect and show compassion for those infected or affected by HIV or AIDS. The theme for 2013 World AIDS day is; Getting to Zero, zero new HIV infections, zero HIV related deaths and zero discrimination.
