Annual Kilimanjaro Trek
ACE Africa organises bespoke events including an annual Kilimanjaro Climb, (the next now taking place in December 2010) in Tanzania and a Cycle Kenya Challenge (September 2010). Both of these trips are unique and feature involvement by ACE Africa local staff in Kenya and Tanzania and visits to the project sites.
The first ACE Africa Kilimanjari climb was undertaken in September 2009, by a group of 11 from the UK (including Juliet, the Director of ACE in the UK), joined by 2 of the now-graduated students of our Kenyan school programme for orphans, and several staff members from Tanzania and Kenya. The ACE Africa Kilimanjaro climb raised over GBP20,000 through online sponsorship, and brought a team of people - some of whom did not know each other at all - extremely close together. The climb was followed by a celebration in Arusha with staff from ACE Africa's Tanzania team, as well as several of the Kenyan team, and visits the next day to ACE Africa's project sites around Arusha to witness first-hand how the money raised will be used locally.
This trip was such a success that we've decided to make this unique opportunity an annual fundraising event.
ACE Africa is now taking bookings for the next Kilimanjaro Climb - 3rd-13th December, to be run by the expedition company that ran led recent Comic Relief climb. Trekkers will be flown to Kilimanjaro Airport, arriving on the 4th to stay in the beautiful Kia Lodge overlooking Kilimanjaro, before setting off the next day on the scenic, 7-day Rongai route. You will also have the option of a post-climb trip to Tanzania's stunning coastline of Pangani, where you'll stay in beach bungalows and spend your days snorkeling, diving, fishing or just relaxing.
