Beatrice Wanyoni
Beatrice Wanyoni is a widowed grandmother looking after a family of 30.
All four of her children and their spouses died due to HIV/AIDS-related causes, and their children were left to fend for themselves.
Facing immense stigma in their everyday lives, the children moved in to their grandmother's home. Beatrice is simply unable to feed all her grandchildren from her 1/2 acre farm.
The ACE Community Activator referred the case to ACE, and the children were provided with school uniforms so that they were able to finally attend school.
The children were tested, and the youngest boy, a two year old was found to be HIV+. He was provided with nutritional supplements, and since then his health has greatly improved.
ACE will train family members on Agriculture and Nutrition, so that they may develop a kitchen garden which will aim to increase yields of food production, as well as improve the nutritional content of their diets.
