Vincent Nyongesa

Vincent is 15 years old. He lives with his mother Margaret and his eight other siblings. Vincent's father died in 2002 due to HIV/AIDS-related causes. Most family members spend their spare time in casual labour trying to provide the family with one meagre meal a day, this means that the children's attendance at school is sporadic.

The family was identified by an ACE counsellor and Margaret was trained in Agriculture and Nutrition, and has since developed a kitchen garden where she now grows a variety of nutritious vegetables for the family. Three of the children, Vincent, Dan and Mercy are sponsored by ACE to attend Imani, a private primary boarding school. Vincent, who is currently excelling in his final year will hopefully qualify for an ACE bursary to enable him to continue his education at the secondary level.
