Where We Work
Over the past five years, HIV/AIDS has claimed the lives of more than 20 million worldwide; 2.9 million of these died in 2006 alone and 99% in developing countries. Today, an estimated 40 million live with the disease daily, 24.5 million of these live in Sub-Saharan Africa. (Ref: UNAIDS media advisory May 2007)
In Kenya today approximately 1.1 million people are living with the virus - a reduction from 2.2 million in 2005. (Ref: National AIDS Control Council NACC August 2007)
ACE Africa works in areas of acute need -
- which are remote and rural
- where 60% of people live on less than $1 a day
- where 40% of the adult population exhibit the signs and symptoms of AIDS
- and 17% of children are orphans
