A fantastic 120 Ace supporters joined our annual quiz at London’s Battersea Arts Centre and raised a record-breaking £12,502. Our regular quiz master, Mark Turnbull, tested 15 teams over 9 rounds. The reigning champions took first place once again. Congratulations team ‘It’s a Lilongwe to the top’, and to all the other teams who took part.
Following a film showing the work of Ace Africa counsellors in the field, our Vice Chairman David Montgomery urged guests to support the work of these vital staff, who carry out HIV testing, provide psychosocial support to people living with HIV/AIDS and refer girls who have suffered from FGM and abuse. This prompted 28 pledges worth an amazing £1,550. Finally, our inspired Quiz Master doubled as auctioneer and raised over £7,000 in just 10 minutes.
This money will support children and their communities in rural Kenya and Tanzania. David noted that Barack Obama’s father lived just moments away from our Kenyan project sites. Ace can now give a chance to local children follow in the footsteps of that famous family.
Thanks to everyone for making this our most successful quiz night yet – to our extremely generous raffle and auction donors, Mark Turnbull for his contagious energy and enthusiasm, David Montgomery for speaking so lucidly, Battersea Arts Centre for their dazzling venue, Pots & Co for pudding and our incredible team of volunteers – Harriette, Lora, Amy, Rebecca, Lucy, Amy and Tsuiyee.
