5 December 2014The Waterloo Foundation supports Ace Africa Child-to-Child Clubs

IMG_2489We are thrilled that The Waterloo Foundation has recently awarded Ace Africa a 2-year grant to establish 20 new Child-to-Child (CtC) Clubs in Bondo, Gem, Ugunja and Rarieda, rural Siaya, Kenya. It is fantastic to count on the support of The Waterloo Foundation in this important project for Ace.

In the area 1 in 5 children are orphans and 34% of households live in absolute food poverty. Children often go to school hungry and many times have access to just one basic meal a day lacking essential nutrients for an healthy development..

The grant will enable us to train new teachers, headteachers and children from across 20 schools in health, HIV/AIDS education, lifeskills, organic farming and agricultural techniques. Furthermore, the clubs will receive a drip irrigation kit, seeds and tools so they have all the necessary equipment to grow a flourishing kitchen garden ensuring children from within the club are guaranteed at least one nutritious meal a day in school.

Ace CtC Clubs provide children with the knowledge and skills to grow up to become healthy, independent and self-sufficient young adults. The Clubs provide an arena in which children can openly discuss their feelings and concerns and gain support from children who are often share similar backgrounds and circumstances. We currently operate in 253 primary schools across Kenya and Tanzania and with the support of The Waterloo Foundation we very much look forward to establishing in 20 new schools who have requested Ace Africa’s support.
