The Ace Africa family. How it works

Ace Africa UK was established in 2005 to fundraise for Ace Africa Kenya (founded in 2003) and Ace Africa Tanzania (founded in 2008). Each is an independent organisation registered in its respective country. We share a common name and vision; together we identify funding opportunities, and create proposals and reports. Partnership agreements define roles and responsibilities. Africa UK does not define approaches to poverty alleviation; the best understanding of problems and their solutions is in East Africa.

Donors can make grants directly to Ace Africa Kenya and Ace Africa Tanzania or ask Ace Africa UK to manage grants on their behalf and provide accountability. Ace Africa UK also raises money for its partners. Audited accounts are available for each Ace Africa charity.

Can I donate items like clothing, blankets and scholarly materials?

We do not send items from the UK overseas, however good their condition. This is due to custom regulations; the fumigation of second hand items, and the logistics make the process complicated, labour intensive and expensive. We instead encourage supporters to raise money for such items so that we can purchase these resources in country. Please do contact the Ace UK office if you would like to help with the support of a specific item for schools, households or the wider community.

Can I choose to donate money to a specific project, country or item?

Yes. You can donate to a specific project. We have a number of choices from across our programmes in Child Development, Community Health and Wellbeing, Agriculture and Nutrition and Economic Empowerment. Please contact us on david.evans@ace-africa.org to discuss further this option.

We also encourage our supporters to become Friends of Ace. Regular giving means we can plan for the future, as we know we can rely on your donation every month to help develop the communities we support.

Does Ace carry out emergency response?

Ace Africa is a community development organisation, working with communities on a long-term basis. However, in the places where we work, we endeavor to respond to natural disasters and other emergencies where we can make a useful contribution, whether it be to drought or civil unrest as has been experienced in Kenya over our 20 year history.

How can I work for Ace Africa?

Ace Africa UK is a very small team, comprising 2 full time fundraisers and 1 part time finance manager. We have very few openings for jobs in the UK, please do check Charity Job website and the Ace Africa website in the event that a job becomes available. Or email our UK Director, David, david.evans@ace-africa.org, to discuss any opportunities.

I have raised some money for Ace Africa. Where should I send the cheque?

Thank you so much for choosing to support Ace Africa, we really appreciate your support. Please send us a cheque made payable to ‘Ace Africa’ to:

Can I sponsor a child?

Since 2005 Ace has helped 145 children complete secondary school, who otherwise would not have had the opportunity. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal bursary and alumni sponsors who have provided life-changing opportunities for children through the gift of secondary and university education in Kenya, where this education is not free. This programme has now been phased out, as governments and other donors increasingly take on the responsibility of providing bursaries and counseling to vulnerable children.

We do have a number of other child development projects which you can support, please email us to find out more.

Does Ace Africa have any political or religious affiliations?

Ace Africa has no political or religious affiliations. We work with poor and marginalized people in rural East Africa, working with governments, international institutions and partners in close partnership to tackle the root causes of poverty.
