22 November 2013An exciting time for Ace’s CTC Clubs!

ACEfuturestarsIn Tanzania this year we have secured funding for two more additional activities to our CtC Clubs!

The first is to introduce and pilot a football league in 6 of our Ace CtC Schools in the Arusha District. In partnership with Future Stars Academy, Ace Africa will train teachers in basic coaching skills in November 2013 and then launch the Ace Football league in January 2014. Supported and funded by Eton College. Glen Pierce, Master of Football, and 3 gap year students will kick off the project next year providing teachers with technical coaching support and hundreds of girls and boys the opportunity to participate in games and football matches with neighbouring schools, for the first time in their lives. This exciting project has the support of our patron AVB!!

In addition Ace Africa has secured from The Egmont Trust to develop and deliver a rights drama theatre, specifically for the communities where we work. In partnership with Seka Educational Theatre, the drama group will involve children and community members to identify issues of rights violation, solutions and local service provision including Ace Rights Protection systems with the community as well as providing the opportunity to break down stigma, taboo and the cultural barriers that lead to rights violations.

Participatory drama facilitates discussion during and after presentations of a theme or focus area and has the potential to create greater impact in changing communities’ negative perceptions and attitudes eg. on the rights of children and women. Ace has identified Seka Educational Theatre, an organisation with over 10 years experience working in educational drama in Southern Africa (recently expanded to work in Tanzania). Seka has extensive experience in Zambia, South Africa and Tanzania in the development and delivery or participatory theatre in diverse communities focusing on the social, economic, health and rights issues that people face in their daily lives. Seka will work with Ace Africa to develop and pilot a specific rights based, community theatre programme to be implemented in schools and the community in one project site, Mateves. This pilot will add value to the Ace Africa Child and Community Rights Programme.

We are hugely excited to start this new project which will begin in early 2014!
