The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa conference: Expediting the Implementation of Africa’s 2030 Agenda, Kigali, Rwanda 27th January 2017
Ace Africa’s Founder and Tanzania Country Director, Joanna Waddington MBE, was invited to attend The Sustainable Development Goals Center for Africa (SDGC/A) where guests will participate in the conference: Expediting the Implementation of Africa’s 2030 Agenda.
The SDGC/A is an autonomous international organisation, that provides technical support, and expertise as input to national governments, private sector, civil society, academic institutions to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agenda across Africa. The Center, which became operational on 1st July 2016, was established by African leaders following the signing-off of the historic agreement on sustainable development during the UN General Assembly in September 2015. African leaders decided to take quick and firm action by establishing the Center, as a home-grown African institution, championing the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in line with the principles of AU’s 2063 Agenda. The SDGC/A Board of Directors comprise of high profile personalities, including heads of state, business leaders and renowned civil society activists. The current Board is co-chaired by President Kagame of the Republic of Rwanda and Aliko Dangote, a prominent Nigerian businessman.
The SDGC/A Conference: Expediting the Implementation of Africa’s 2030 Agenda will bring together over 200 government officials, businesses, civil society, academia and experts from all over Africa to the official launch of the SDGC/A; the presentation of the Africa Report 2030 (How Africa can achieve the SDGs by 2030) and discussing the major themes relevant to SDG implementation in Africa. In addition, three thematic group discussions will be held, namely: Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting (MER), Development Financing, and IT supported Unique Identification System that could enhance African integration efforts.
